Some insight on music and games

19 09 2008

I recently got a story published by German trade weekly MusikWoche (my main client) in which I summarize my findings on the current state of affairs in the business of music and games. Not that I claim to have unearthed revolutionary details but you may find interesting the royalties being paid to copyright owners in this field. I was given percentage figures by “sources familiar with” the negotiations between music publishers, labels, and games publishers.

Here is link to the article on MusikWoche’s website. But since it’s a paysite, you might need a password.

Could this become a hit in Juneau’s club scene?

19 09 2008

Honestly, I have no clue if there even exists such a thing as a club scene in Juneau (or maybe in Fairbanks?). Nor do I know who John Brown is. Some rapper apparently. Doesn’t really matter, though. As long as people keep ridiculing Barbie Girl from Wasilla it’s fine with me. This woman needs to be stopped by all means. Fighting her will only rally the Palinistas behind her, so making fun of her seems to be the way to go. Okay, I admit “laying pipe” is a little raunchy. And I also miss a line about dinosaurs and one about seeing Russia from the back porch.

But if you play the sexy, “down home”, hockey mom card you should be prepared for the backlash. Especially if you claim to be ready to point your karibou gun at the “axis of evil”. Stuff like this won’t go away. Maybe it will even get better in the coming weeks. Fun times ahead … ?

In the meantime, check out this clip:

After you hit bottom the only way is up

At least this is what the most recent statements of Vivendi CEO Jean-Bernard Lévy suggest. Monsieur Lévy thinks Universal Music will be a success story because digital business is about to compensate for physical losses. The number one major “is the next surprise for our investors”, he said. Really? Last time I checked their Q2 figures sales were down 5.3% and pre-tax profit was down by 9.2%. But hey, it’s all a matter of perspective.

Some people even think this song is good:
