8 10 2008

Troubled? Yes. Talented? Indeed. Successful? You bet. She still is. In fact, Amy Winehouse was the bestselling musical artist in Germany in the first half of 2008. media control, which compiles Germany’s charts, just published a Top 10 List that puts Winehouse ahead of three local German acts for the sales period of January to August.

The list takes into account all sales of Singles, Tracks, Albums and Downloads – no matter what format. Most of the artists on this list are still more successful at physical retail. Amy Winehouse sold 68 percent of all her music physically. Leona Lewis, however, enters the Top 10 at #8 with 51 percent of her sales being digital.

Lewis is the only act on that list to sell more downloads than CDs. Duffy and Madonna experienced an equal ratio of physical/digital. For “Schlager” star Helene Fischer downloads are still a niche business, with 88 percent of her fans shopping at retail (or Amazon) for physical copies.

Here is the complete list:

  3. Die Ärzte
  4. Udo Lindenberg
  5. Coldplay
  6. Paul Potts
